I’m seeing far too many Christians on my social media news feeds freaking straight out about the upcoming elections. Rallying both for the left and right candidates of their particular preference.
I get it OK. The choice between say Trump and Hillary for president is like having to chose between being kicked in the sack and getting punched in the face.
If thats not Biblical enough just imagine Jesus telling his disciples they should support Herod instead of Ceasar because he hadn’t committed mass murder on quite as large a scale
I’ve heard all the arguments that Jesus was a “liberal,” Jesus was a “conservative” etc.
No he was not…
By all canonized historical accounts Jesus was Apolitical. Jesus was so explicitly clear that his kingdom was not of this world I cannot believe this is an actual discussion.
If you think I am being presumptuous please cite any (red letter) quotes where Jesus appealed to the political leaders of his time whether Hebrew, or Roman for social change, morality, justice, or charity. If its in there I’d like to see it. I can always use a good bible lesson.
It seems very apparent to me he was a from the (ground up) teacher. Rather than trying to get more laws passed that would punish adulterers he forgave them and told them to sin no more, rather than wishing for laws to steal from (tax) rich people, he appealed to them to sell their things and follow him (voluntarily.) Rather than cheering for the execution of criminals he invited them into his kingdom (voluntarily.) Jesus always seems to have gone straight to the source of society’s problems, mans corruptable heart.
I’m Not telling you not to vote because that’s your choice and right. However don’t tell me I’m wasting my vote by voting third party, a write in, or not at all (unless of course you can handle me telling you the same by voting for the lesser of two evils.)
The state is not my God and my God is not the state. I believe that until we change our hearts and the hearts of this nation, who is in office is no more significant than changing wardens in a prison of violent offenders who have no intention of ever reforming.
Work on living by sound, objectively righteous morals, starting with yourself. Raise your kids the same way and in a few generations it won’t matter nearly as much who is in office. Oh and stop worshipping mere mortals as if they could could honestly (fix the country.)
